Shoals fertilizer development center serving world's farmers for 50 years

The International Fertilizer Development Center in the Shoals has been serving the world's farmers for 50 years.

Since 1974, the IFDC in Sheffield has been the global leader in research and development for affordable effective fertilizer in one hundred counties. Their mission to catalyze farm productivity in underdeveloped countries. This also helps small-scale farmers and agri-entrepreneurs improve their livelihoods and communities world wide.

“So, what we do is called research and development,†said James Thigpen, Global Corp. Communication Manager. “There are aid organizations, when there are emergencies, drought, famine, we need aid because food cannot be grown in those conditions. We are one of the only organizations that research the science behind the agriculture technologies and we take it to the field to Africa, Asia.â€

If you’re interested in learning more about the IFDC in Sheffield, tours are available at no charge on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9 a.m.
