Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling is in the process of meeting with the four officers involved in the deadly shooting of Steve Perkins and deciding the fate of their employment.

The community is anxiously waiting to hear what the mayor will decide for their employment. The involved officers have been on paid leave or assignments the past two months.

On Tuesday, Bowling said the goal is to complete his determination hearings with the involved officers by the end of this week, and he will release information about what he decides.

A small group of protesters gathered outside Bowling’s house Tuesday night. But shortly after they arrived, at least eight Decatur police officers came and told the protesters they had to leave. One protester was arrested.

Many in the Decatur community say this entire process has gone on far too long.

Carl Willingham said, “It has been a long time you know, you're looking at almost three months since he was killed and I think right now is a valuable time for just any answers. I think if the family could just hear the progress, if somebody could just update them. You know we heard December the 4th that we would hear what was going to happen as far as the investigation. But I think any information to just at least let the family know what the progress is right now.â€
