Six inmates at the Lawrence County Jail were hospitalized Friday after authorities said they tried “to get high.â€

The inmates ingested an unknown substance, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

Once taken to Lawrence Medical Center, none of the inmates tested positive for illegal drugs. The sheriff’s office said four of the six inmates already have been discharged, and the other two are expected later Friday.

The inmates, whose names have not been released, could face promoting prison contraband charges, the sheriff’s office said.
