The family of the Florence woman sodomized and burglarized provides an update on their 79-year-old mother and grandmother.

Several members of the 79-year-old's family are with her at The University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital where she is in a special trauma unit receiving care.

The daughter-in-law tells Â鶹Çø her mother is shaken up, but stable. She says her face is still swollen and bruised as she recovers from this traumatizing weekend.

Since she is the victim of a sex crime, we are going to keep her identity hidden.

After this incident, Florence police are urging families to keep an eye on their loved ones.

The range is now offering a free senior safety class geared toward scams, situational awareness, firearm safety, and simple safety reminders. They hope this class will help protect those in the community who are our most vulnerable.

“We are a family business that wants to cater to families and to keep people safe and keep families safe,� Instructor Tracey Smith said. "If we see a need in the community that there needs to be a class, we’ll develop one and have it and of course we have the shooting range as a great place to practice,� Owner Keith Collier said.
