Thursday night, the Huntsville City Council approved a 325 million dollar development in downtown. The site is on Clinton Avenue near Monroe street.

It's the largest undeveloped tract of land in downtown Huntsville. It's been vacant since the Coca Cola bottling plant there, known as Big Springs Bottling, closed in 2012.

The new project, being developed by New York firm Rocket Development Partners, LLC, includes a 100 room hotel, 40,000 square feet of office space, and an 800-space parking garage. The city is set to contribute 18 million dollars to the project, but not until work has officially begun.

General work on the site is set to be completed by July 2022. The project is set to be complete by 2025. Click for more information about the development.

Statement from Mitchell Rutter and Dan Shields, Rocket Development Partners

Huntsville is on a fast track to become Alabama's biggest city with a downtown master plan which envisions bringing a unique mix of residential, retail, office and entertainment to meet the demands of pedestrians, public transit, streetscaping and connectivity with the Von Braun Center.

Our team is energized by Huntsville’s growth, and we are excited to support Mayor Tommy Battle’s master plan with a transformative downtown project that will meet the city’s rising needs and serve as an engine to the future of city building on a national scale. Mayor Battle is committed to smart growth and we’re grateful to him, his team and community partners for creating a city where people and businesses of all backgrounds can thrive.

Located within an Opportunity Zone, we believe this project will help create a vibrant live, work, play atmosphere downtown and expand the local economy for decades to come. Our team looks forward to playing a role in Huntsville’s next phase of growth with this mixed-use development.
