Muscle Shoals is seeing inches of snow on the ground after Monday's full day of snow and sleet falling down.

The road conditions are just not in good shape to be driving on in Muscle Shoals, Florence, and Tuscumbia. Officials here are urging everybody to stay home if you can.

Lauderdale County EMA Director George Grabryan spoke with Â鶹Çø and shared his safety advice for you and your family.

Grabryan said, “The conditions are going to deteriorate as the day goes on; we’ve been watching the temperatures and such. Tonight it's going to be really cold, and we’ll also have a little bit of wind. The wind may work in our favor as far as drying some of this up, even below freezing, but it's not going to be good to get out on. If you wind up having a wreck or something, or going off the road and getting stranded, you're going to get very cold very quickly."

Grabryan added, "So if you’ve got to go somewhere, be sure that someone knows your route and is expecting you. In short, what I would recommend is staying home if you can; this will pass, and in a few days it won’t be an issue."

If you and your family are going outside to enjoy the snow, please be sure to bundle up. Temperatures are continuing to drop overnight.

Grabryan says their staff is well prepared and equipped to handle any kind of emergency situation that this winter weather could bring, but urges people to stay off the roads right now.

Grabryan told Â鶹Çø, "Basically, we’ve been on a number of calls, making sure we have the proper coordination in place in case something does happen. We’ve talked to several first response agencies, and they’re doing what they normally would do. We have a very good, responsible set of response agencies, and they’re accustomed to this type of weather even though we don’t have it that often. They still remember the last event.â€
