A mother wants justice for her son after he was attacked by a group at a party in Lawrence County on Oct. 28. Â鶹Çø obtained a video posted on social media showing the violence.

Brayden Burney’s mother, Brittany, immediately took him to the hospital when he returned from a party on Oct. 28. She says their next stop was the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office to file a police report. She says an investigator was supposed to call her this week but she hasn't heard anything yet.

Brittany Burney says her son was trying to get away from the group after they initially attacked him. The video shows them catching up to him and beating him again.

Brittany Burney said, “He’s running from them and they chase him down, they beat him unconscious again and continue to beat him while he is unconscious on the ground. Until someone steps in and gets him out of there.â€

Another part of the video shows somebody stepping in and picking up Brayden from the ground. Brittany Burney says her family has since thanked this person for helping her son. She says her son has a cracked sinus orbital bone and bruises, and she is thankful his injuries were not worse.

Brittany Burney said, “To actually see the video and what has happened to your child when he is helpless and unconscious on the ground when he is continued to be beat just violently is not acceptable and it will break a mom’s heart.â€

She says her son is healing physically but recovering mentally is an uphill battle, adding, “He’s struggling…he’s struggling to be the person he was before this happened, he is traumatized, very traumatized. He is having a hard time understanding why somebody could do this and how somebody could be this evil. He is having a hard time with that.â€

Â鶹Çø reached out to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office about this attack. They told us the attack is classified as a misdemeanor assault. That means it’s up to the victim to identify the attackers in order to press charges against them.

Brittany Burney said, “We went and picked up the police report on Friday. The lady that helped us said she would leave a note for the investigator to give us a call. Because we told her we had videos and evidence and she said the investigator would give us a call; that he had been out and that Monday he would contact us. We still have not heard from anybody at the police department.â€

Brittany Burney says the family wants accountability and justice for those involved, and they have hired an attorney.
