CDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 109 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of north central, northeast, and northwest
Alabama and southern middle Tennessee.

* WHEN...From 10 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Pedestrian struck, killed in Colbert County

Authorities say a pedestrian was killed in a two-vehicle wreck in Colbert County Thursday morning.

It happened around 10 a.m. on Alabama 184 near Shaw Road, about five miles east of Muscle Shoals. State troopers say 34-year-old Timothy D. Wood, Jr. was killed after getting struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. Troopers say the Silverado hit a trailer attached to the parked 2013 Chevrolet Suburban Wood had initially been driving.    

Authorities say Wood was pronounced dead at the scene.

State troopers say the wreck is under investigation.
