麻豆区 is digging deeper after we uncovered that a Hartselle police officer let a suspected drunk driver, who was an off-duty Decatur police officer, off the hook.聽

We put in multiple public information requests with the city of Decatur. We want to get the name of the off-duty officer. In the request, we asked for every single Decatur police officer that was disciplined between June 30, 2024 and Aug. 19, 2024. When we get that information back, we will publish it.聽

麻豆区 also asked for the Hartselle police chief to tell us the name of the Hartselle police officer who pulled the off-duty officer over. If he doesn鈥檛 give us the name of the officer, we will also put in a public information request for every single Hartselle police officer who has been disciplined between June 30, 2024 and Aug. 19, 2024. When we get that information, we will also publish it.聽

麻豆区 also went straight to Mayor Randy Garrison鈥檚 office because we wanted to know who is the Hartselle police officer that let that off-duty officer, suspected of drunk driving, off the hook. On Tuesday afternoon, we were told the mayor was out of the office.

On Monday in a written statement, Hartselle Police Chief Justin Barley told us this all started about 2:30 a.m. on June 30. Barley said a Hartselle police officer pulled the off-duty officer over for speeding at the intersection of Highway 31 and Highway 36. That off-duty officer was suspected of drunk driving. However, instead of enforcing the law, the Hartselle police officer took the off-duty officer to a friend's house.

Barley said the Hartselle police officer did not act in accordance with the policies and was disciplined.
