The shooting happened on Songbird Drive Wednesday night.
Maurice White was shot and killed in an Athens Police officer-involved shooting on Wednesday.
Neighbors on Songbird Drive tell 麻豆区 their neighborhood is generally friendly and calm. Many are still shaken up after hearing and seeing the events that unfolded Wednesday night.聽
Athens Police received a call about 5:30 p.m. that a suspect had threatened the occupant of a home with a gun and fled the scene. The Limestone County coroner confirmed the suspect was Maurice White.聽
Officers responded, located White, and tried to convince him to give up his gun. He refused and fled to Songbird Drive in Athens where authorities confirmed he fired his weapon.
Authorities say White went in between two homes where an officer used a taser on him after refusing to drop his weapon.聽
White eventually pointed his gun at the officers and was shot about 7:20 p.m. Officers rendered first aid but were unsuccessful. White died at the scene.聽
David Reynolds says he heard arguing and gunshots coming from down his street. He opened his garage door and saw a man standing by his mailbox with a gun in his hand.聽
鈥淚t鈥檚 not every day you see somebody walking down the road with a gun in their hand,鈥 Reynolds said.
Reynolds says he saw roughly five officers and heard several gunshots go off before everything calmed down.聽
麻豆区 Reporter Paige Meyer counted 12 bullet holes between the two homes.聽
鈥淚t was pretty repetitious,鈥 Reynolds said. 鈥淚 was in the military, I鈥檝e fired enough weapons to know that nobody can squeeze off that many shots that fast.鈥澛
James Sharp鈥檚 home was in the line of fire. It was in his yard that White was shot down. 鈥淗e had cops coming this way and this way and this is as far as he got,鈥 Sharp said.聽
After seeing the amount of bullet holes around his home Thursday morning, he can't help but wonder if it was too many. 鈥淭here was a lot of shooting in just a matter of seconds,鈥 Sharp said.
