The Pineview Christian Warriors are just one win from perfection.
The six-man squad out of Harvest has only played four seasons but have the chance to capture their second title this week.
“It’s been a great year," head coach Roger Hillis said.
With nine wins already, including two by forfeit, the Warriors will play for one more and the state title against First Assembly Christian on Thursday night in Guntersville.
“I was undefeated in 1981,†Hillis said of his last perfect season. “It’s very rare.â€
Hillis helped start the Warriors program in 2021. Before that, he had not served as a head coach since the 1980s.
“I’ve been retired three or four times during my career. It keeps drawing me back but this is the most fun I’ve ever had coaching football,†he said.
