Ex-Colbert County High School principal wins appeal against firing

The Colbert County Board of Education failed when it fired the former principal of one of it’s schools, a judge ruled Thursday.

The board “failed to provide Melcha Satchel proper notice†and “failed to show a willful violation of policy†when it fired him as principal of Colbert County High School, the circuit judge ruled.

Satchel was suspended back in April after a student was caught at prom with alcohol. The board terminated him in May. His lawyers appealed the termination.

The Colbert County Sheriff's Office earlier told WAAY the incident involved the actions taken after the alcohol was discovered and how the student got home. The student was OK following the incident, officials said.
